Remembrance Day 2015

November 11th 2015 marks the anniversary of the day World War One ended in 1918.

During the next half term New Silksworth Infant School will be remembering all of the people, who have served, and who currently serve our country in our wars.  As many children feel differently we will explore how the children feel and allow them to share their thoughts. On Friday 13th November the children will enjoy a themed assembly and lunch - with a few surprises!

How can you help?

Holiday art project: To support our learning and pay our respects we would like to create a large whole school poppy display. During the holiday can you please create a poppy with your child - more than one if you are feeling particularly creative!  It can be any size and you can use whatever material you wish e.g. collage, paint or paper mache. Hand your completed poppy to your teacher during the first week back and it will take its place in the school display!

Dressing up: To really get into the spirit we would love the children to come into school on Friday 13th November dressed in clothes from the 1940s i.e. shirts, waistcoats, flat caps, dresses, boots, headscarves – charity shops are ideal for this!

Memorabilia: If you or your family members have any World War memorabilia that you are happy to share with our children please let us know.

Donations: We also have a number of Remembrance Day items for sale in the school office and money raised supports The Royal British Legion.

We are hoping to make this a memorable day for the children.

Thank you in advance for your support.
