Class 2 had a lovely, if cold day at 'Down at the farm.' The children participated in lots of activities including bottle feeding the lambs, holding chicks and rabbits, grooming a donkey, finding out about a skunk and going on a tractor ride to find out more about the cows.
It was so good that one child said, "I'm going to be a farmer when I grow up!" (Isla)
A big thank you to all the parents who came and made the visit possible.
Class 2 have been interested in minibeasts. We have been hunting for creatures in our outdoor learning area and recording how many of each we have found. We also have a new 'minibeast hotel' to encourage more creatures for us to learn about! We have been doing lots of planting in class 2, both indoors and outdoors. We have planted spinach, peas, spring onions, sweetcorn, beans and sunflowers. There are lots of green fingered children in our class.
In class, children are enjoying our new 'writing den' where they can practise their writing skills. We have also been practising paying for things using real coins in our farm shop role play.
In class 2 we have been working on our 'Winter' topic. Many of our activities have been about exploring ice and snow.
Children have been exploring fake snow, ice and real snow. We have tested the best method to melt ice quickly, rescued animals from blocks of ice and made our own ice sculptures!
We have been Imagining what it must be like to be an Inuit and the children have made their own fishing rods and pretended to go ice fishing to get some food.
We have written winter poems and created snowy and icy pictures in the creative area.
5 4 3 2 1 BLAST OFF!
Class 2 have been given a huge cardboard box to make into anything they wanted. As a group they decided to make it into a rocket and fly to the moon. To make their rocket the class used a range of materials; glue, scissors, feathers, stamps, paper, felt and pencils to name just a few. This activity helped to develop the children’s communication and team work skills, by working together to create their amazing rocket. The children built the rocket over two days, evaluating and adapting their ideas to create their spectacular rocket.
This Autumn term Class 2 have been learning and developing lots of new skills.
We made the most of the windy weather having fun flying kites. The children chose which materials they wanted and decided how they were going to make their kites. They had great fun testing them out.
The children love maths. They practise the skills they are taught in our focus sessions and play maths games, counting games and shape games.
The children have been developing their gross motor skills by balancing, climbing, jumping and playing with balls and the large parachute.
The children were exploring the capacity of different containers and comparing the quantity each held.
